Welcome to jeanmicheljarre.no — an independent fan and collector's website dedicated to the music, concerts and record releases of Jean-Michel Jarre.

This project began with a simple idea: to gather reliable information in one place for collectors and fans. Over the years I realised that valuable information about different pressings, rare releases, promotional editions, concert history and memorabilia was often scattered across numerous websites, forums and auction listings. My goal has therefore been to create a structured and easy-to-use resource where both newcomers and experienced collectors can explore Jarre's remarkable career.

The website combines discographical information, collector's guides, concert history, photographs, memorabilia and articles covering more than five decades of Jean-Michel Jarre's work. Rather than simply listing releases, the aim is to explain the differences between editions, highlight interesting variations and provide useful background information that helps collectors identify and appreciate the many unique versions released around the world.

Although every effort is made to ensure accuracy, this is an ongoing project. New discoveries, previously undocumented releases and corrections continue to appear, and the website will therefore evolve over time. Contributions, corrections and additional information from fellow collectors are always welcome.

This website is a non-commercial fan project created out of genuine enthusiasm for one of electronic music's most influential artists.

THE COLLECTOR

My interest in Jean-Michel Jarre began in the 1980s and has continued ever since. What started with listening to albums such as Oxygène and Équinoxe gradually developed into a passion for collecting records and learning about the many different editions released across the world.

Today the collection includes hundreds of items, ranging from common LPs and CDs to promotional releases, international pressings, rare singles, books, magazines and concert memorabilia. I particularly enjoy researching the history behind individual releases, comparing different pressings and documenting the many variations that often go unnoticed.

Collecting has never been about owning the most valuable records. For me it is equally about preserving the history surrounding the music, understanding how albums were released in different countries and sharing that knowledge with other fans. Every record has a story, whether it is a first French pressing, a Japanese edition with an obi strip, a promotional release sent to radio stations or a local pressing with unique artwork.

Beyond collecting, I have also been fortunate to experience several Jean-Michel Jarre concerts over the years. Those performances have only strengthened my appreciation for his music and his pioneering contribution to electronic music and live production.

For many collectors and music enthusiasts, there is one item that cannot be bought at an auction or found in a record store: a personal memory with the artist. For me, that moment came on 12 April 2008, when Jean-Michel Jarre brought his celebrated Oxygène Live tour to Oslo Konserthus (Concert Hall).

I had been a devoted fan of Jarre for more than two decades. I bought my first Jean-Michel Jarre record in 1985, and over the following years I collected his albums, attended his concerts and developed a growing fascination with the history behind his music and record releases. Meeting the man whose music had inspired me for so many years seemed like an impossible dream.

My brother and I arrived early outside the artists' entrance at Oslo Konserthus, hoping for a chance to see him before the concert. After a while, a car pulled up, accompanied by security personnel. Although there were only a handful of fans waiting, Jean-Michel Jarre immediately walked over to greet us. From the very first moment he was friendly, relaxed and genuinely interested in the people who had come to meet him.

I shook his hand and welcomed him to Norway before handing him my copies of Oxygène and AERO. Smiling, he borrowed my pen and carefully signed both CDs while we exchanged a few words. Despite preparing for that evening's performance, he never appeared rushed or distracted. It was immediately clear why so many fans describe him as approachable and generous with his time.

The concert itself was unforgettable. Seeing Oxygène performed live by the original musicians, surrounded by vintage analogue synthesizers and modern technology, made for an extraordinary evening that perfectly captured the timeless atmosphere of the album.

After the performance, my brother and I returned to the artists' entrance, hoping for one final glimpse before Jarre left the venue. By then, many more fans had gathered, creating an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation. Eventually, Jean-Michel Jarre emerged together with his long-time collaborator Francis Rimbert, who, understandably, attracted less attention than the evening's star.

Once again, Jarre patiently took the time to meet everyone waiting outside. I joined the queue, and when it was my turn, we had the opportunity to take photographs together before he signed the Oxygène tour poster I had purchased earlier that evening. Just like before the concert, he greeted every fan with patience, warmth and genuine appreciation.

Nearly two decades later, that day outside Oslo Konserthus remains one of the defining memories of my journey as a Jean-Michel Jarre collector and fan. Here are Jean-Michel Jarre's autographs from that day:
