Jean-Michel Jarre has visited Norway several times throughout his career to perform concerts and participate in various events. To date, he has held eight concerts in Norway: five at Oslo Spektrum, one at Festningen, one at the Oslo Opera House, and one in Bergen.
The first time I saw him was back in 1997 during the Oxygene Tour. Tickets sold out remarkably quickly - within 90 minutes, a record for that time. As a result, Jean-Michel Jarre added an extra show on June 14th, just a month later.
"In line with Jarre's ambition to hold concerts in unique locations, the choice has fallen on Grefsenkollen on Friday 13 June", writes OverOslo in its press release. The last time Jean-Michel Jarre held an outdoor concert in Oslo, in 2010, he gathered around 15,000 spectators at Akershus Fortress.
During the visit to Grefsenkollen, there will probably be an opportunity to hear instrumental classics from the 1970s releases "Oxygene" and "Equinoxe" with the whole city as a background. And certainly something from a couple of his most famous albums from recent times, "Electronica 1: The Time Machine" (2015) and "Electronica 2: The Heart of Noise" (2016).
The concert with Jean-Michel Jarre is organized on Friday 13 June 2025, and is therefore not formally included in the OverOslo 2025 festival programme, even though it is the same company behind the event.
When he played at Akershus fortress in 2010, his show lit up the whole town. For that concert he also invited Norwegian Röyksopp as guests, a duo he expressed great admiration for at the time.
Also at Grefsenkollen, the concert day with Jean Michel Jarre will be supplemented with a number of other artists who are "musically related" to Jean-Michel Jarre.
